Candice: the travelling photographer

Welcome to my blog

The purpose of this blog is to share some of the experiences I have had whilst travelling to a different country each year to photograph it. My first destination was South Africa, I hope you enjoy my travels.

I have been uploading photographs of my recent trip to South Africa on to Flickr and came across a journal entry which I was unable to post due to the remote location.  I thought I might post it now...

"I woke up this morning to the smell of the African bush.  Yesterday we travelled for 5 hours and are now in the heart of Umfolozi Game Reserve.  We are camping at Mpila camp site in the middle of the reserve, I had a rather rough night as it's not fenced in and the Rondavels (African huts) we are staying in has no locks on the doors.  Last night we had a braai (bbq) in the bush and as night fell things began to stir.  The braai area was about 50 metres from the bush and when I shone a light out into the wilderness I was shocked to see many sets of eyes shining back at me - hyena's I was told.  Judging by the number of footprints outside our huts in the morning, they weren't mistaken.

It's taken me a day or two to settle down and get used to my surroundings, the local warthog is now my buddy although he is known to be rather fiesty at times.  Today we are on the hunt for lions, will keep you updated...."
